Work Experience
Before becoming a psychotherapist she worked within the corporate online advertising sector for over seven years using her language qualification followed by four years working for a professional body for psychologists. While studying for her Higher Diploma in Psychology she worked voluntarily for Childline for two years as a call facilitator as well as mentoring other volunteers. It was at this time that she decided she would like to work in a helping profession and commenced her psychotherapy training. Gráinne has worked as a psychotherapist for over 6 years at centres including Access Crumlin and the Oasis Centre. She has experience working with individuals short term and long term on a range of issues, including bereavement, loss, anxiety, depression, sexuality, trauma, low self-worth, pregnancy, relationship difficulties, work stress, life crises, existential issues, and life transitions.
Underpinning Philosophy
Her view of the person is a hopeful one where an individual has potential and is capable of positive psychological growth where they have choice, freedom and responsibility. Gráinne aims to support, encourage and witness her clients’ ability to grow and evolve, to increase their awareness whilst respecting their values, beliefs and ability for a more authentic, self-determined way of being. Gráinne creates and provides clients with a confidential, safe, non-judgemental, empathic space to cultivate a strong therapeutic relationship, a key factor for growth. As a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist, she is committed to a person-centred approach when working with clients while drawing on other approaches including existential psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychosynthesis, subpersonalities and attachment theory.
Academic Background
Gráinne has a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Clinical Psychotherapy from Turning Point Institute (TPI). Prior to this, she completed a Higher Diploma in Psychology at DBS. She also holds a BA (Hons) in Applied Languages from DCU. She is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapists (IAHIP).
