Maeve Geraghty

With over 28 years of experience working with adults and adolescents, Maeve is a psychotherapist and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner dedicated to helping both adults and children overcome their challenges and achieve personal growth. In addition to her core training as a psychotherapist, Maeve holds a qualification in supervision for psychotherapists and social care workers. Her on-going education demonstrates Maeve’s commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest research and techniques in the field of psychotherapy, ensuring that she can provide the most effective and evidence-based care to her clients. Maeve’s approach to therapy is client-centred, focusing on the unique needs and goals of each individual. She believes in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of criticism or stigma. By working collaboratively with her clients, Maeve aims to help them develop the tools and strategies they need to overcome their challenges and live. As an EMDR practitioner, Maeve has learned this therapy for treating trauma, PTSD, and other mental health issues. EMDR therapy uses a series of rapid eye movements to help the brain process and integrate traumatic memories, reducing their emotional intensity and negative impact on daily life. Maeve understands the unique challenges and stressors that young people face in today's world. She provides a safe and supportive environment where adolescents can explore their thoughts and feelings, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and build the resilience they need to navigate the challenges of growing up.

Work Experience

Joanne has worked in both public and private psychotherapy practice as a student and graduate psychotherapist. She works in a humanistic integrative way, focusing on the client and their potential for growth and self-integration. Methods are adapted based on the client’s needs and what they bring to the room, as opposed to using one fixed method. Joanne has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, trauma, addiction, family systems, abuse, and relationship problems.

Underpinning Philosophy

Although trained in a humanistic manner, Joanne pulls from the integrative elements of her training quite frequently by using methods from psychodynamic, gestalt and existential therapies.
