Alex Doyle

Work Experience

Alex has a great joy for working with people from all walks of life. Currently, he works with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland and has been with the organisation for five years, working with individuals living with a brain injury to maximise their post-injury potential. Additionally, Alex has experience working therapeutically with families in CAMHS, alcohol addiction services, private practice, community partnerships, and disability services. Alex works with a wide range of issues that all of us face as human beings and believes that working with clients requires a broad perspective, taking into account the client’s system and relationships and focusing on the influence this has on a client.

Underlying philosophy

Alex works from a systemic perspective, meaning that he places great importance on a client’s system i.e. the relationships a person has. Alex believes that no person is an island, and much of the issues we face in our lives has to do with our relationships. Alex works with families, couples, and individuals. He always aims to engage collaboratively and encourages clients to share their stories and lived experiences; while also challenging any unhelpful perspectives or beliefs a client may bring into a room with them. Alex believes that the therapeutic journey is led by both the client and the therapist, working together to create a space where issues can be authentically discussed.

Academic Background

Alex began his journey as a psychotherapist by graduating from the National College of Ireland with a BA (Hons) in psychology. He then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, and completed a master’s degree in applied criminology and forensic psychology at Edinburgh Napier University. Alex returned to Ireland and completed his psychotherapy training on UCD’s systemic psychotherapy master’s degree course. Alex is accredited by the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI).

Work Experience

Joanne has worked in both public and private psychotherapy practice as a student and graduate psychotherapist. She works in a humanistic integrative way, focusing on the client and their potential for growth and self-integration. Methods are adapted based on the client’s needs and what they bring to the room, as opposed to using one fixed method. Joanne has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, trauma, addiction, family systems, abuse, and relationship problems.

Underpinning Philosophy

Although trained in a humanistic manner, Joanne pulls from the integrative elements of her training quite frequently by using methods from psychodynamic, gestalt and existential therapies.
