Psychotherapist & Coach

Mark Herman

Profile

I am an IACP accredited therapist who blends psychotherapy, coaching and CBT to look at things differently, work creatively and help in fresh new ways. I work with adults and older adolescents on common mental health issues. These include anxiety and stress, depression, bereavement, relationship and family issues, sexuality, life changes and more. While I welcome and work with clients of all genders, I have a special interest in men's issues and have featured in The Irish Times speaking on therapy and men’s mental health. I focus on working with people who grew up in challenging family situations too and also have experience working with neurodivergent people (ASD & ADHD). Beyond therapy, I career coach and facilitate group workshops on self-development topics. I support adults with intellectual disabilities in building fulfilling independent lives too. In my wider life, I'm a dad to a teenager, love spending time in nature and read a lot.

Underlying philosophy

I am an integrative therapist - this means I choose from different therapy models, tools and techniques to create a unique therapy aimed at best helping you. I practise with creativity and practicality, always with gentleness and kindness. I trust in simple things which make a difference: talking, in whatever way you can right now; being truly heard and accepted for who you are; gaining clarity and support to take the first small steps Alongside longer term therapy which brings deep insight, I also work with short-term focus which can be effective on specific issues in a matter of weeks.

Work Experience

Joanne has worked in both public and private psychotherapy practice as a student and graduate psychotherapist. She works in a humanistic integrative way, focusing on the client and their potential for growth and self-integration. Methods are adapted based on the client’s needs and what they bring to the room, as opposed to using one fixed method. Joanne has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, trauma, addiction, family systems, abuse, and relationship problems.

Underpinning Philosophy

Although trained in a humanistic manner, Joanne pulls from the integrative elements of her training quite frequently by using methods from psychodynamic, gestalt and existential therapies.
