John Sweeney

Work Experience

John is a Counselling and Psychotherapy graduate who has worked with clients presenting with a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, PTSD, life transitions, LGBTQ support, career concerns, self-esteem and identity issues, bereavement, anxiety, grief and loss, and relationship challenges. His therapeutic style is rooted in a humanistic framework with elements of psychoanalysis, while also being attuned to body awareness and energy, supporting clients in connecting with their embodied experiences. John’s professional background in people-focused roles has further developed his capacity to build trust, listen deeply, and engage with individuals from diverse walks of life.

Underpinning Philosophy

John believes that hope is the central human focus that enables people to progress towards greater livelihood and happiness. His philosophy is influenced by existential ideas, recognising that life’s challenges often raise deep questions about meaning, freedom, responsibility, and mortality. Therapy, in his view, is a space where clients can safely explore these questions, confront uncertainty, and move toward creating their own sense of purpose. John also takes a visual and embodied approach to therapy, being attuned to the energy we hold in our bodies and how this can shape our emotional and psychological experience. By fostering trust and empowerment, he aims to help clients connect with their resilience, embrace choice, and work towards living more authentic and fulfilling lives.

Academic Background

John holds a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, alongside diplomas in HR and in Psychology. His academic and professional training has shaped a reflective, client-centred approach to therapy that is grounded in both theory and practice.

John Sweeney

Work Experience

Joanne has worked in both public and private psychotherapy practice as a student and graduate psychotherapist. She works in a humanistic integrative way, focusing on the client and their potential for growth and self-integration. Methods are adapted based on the client’s needs and what they bring to the room, as opposed to using one fixed method. Joanne has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, trauma, addiction, family systems, abuse, and relationship problems.

Underpinning Philosophy

Although trained in a humanistic manner, Joanne pulls from the integrative elements of her training quite frequently by using methods from psychodynamic, gestalt and existential therapies.
