When a person is in need of support, is confused, is struggling perhaps, has lost the focus in their life, knowing that someone is there to listen, to acknowledge, to accept and not to judge, can make all the difference. If we learn to understand our lives more clearly then we can make better decisions. We can choose to change, if necessary, and then enjoy our lives with more confidence in our abilities to cope.

Gerry is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. As a counsellor, Gerry works within the humanistic, person-centred, non-directive Rogerian model on a one-to-one basis. In working with men, in particular, Gerry understands how difficult it can be for us to express our needs, our feelings, our fears, our hopes. Life experience can teach us a lot. Anxiety, bereavement, relationships all play a part in our lives. No one is immune to the stresses that accompany them. Talking and listening is key. In helping clients, who are adults over eighteen years of age, to help themselves, Gerry is guided by this quotation from Epictetus, a Stoic philosopher:
“It is not what happens to you but how you react to it that matters.”
