Ffion Thomas

Work Experience

Ffion has been working in private practice as a Somatic Experiencing practitioner since 2018. With a background in complementary therapies, she worked with services users in Rehabcare facilities in Dublin and with patients with acquired brain injuries in Donnybrook hospital, as well as running a successful private practice in Dublin since 2015. Ffion has taught workshops in trauma and the nervous system for staff and therapists at CUAN cancer support centre, and also for parents, teachers and guardians of neurodivergent children at Lus Na Griene family resource centre. Ffion has done additional training in somatic tools for sexual and sexuality trauma, postpartum care, and restorative practice. She also works part-time as a Lifeskills Support Worker for the School Completion Programme, where she uses her extensive experience with trauma resolution and emotional resilience building with young people that are at risk of leaving school early.

Underpinning Philosophy

Ffion holds inherent positive regard for all of her clients and students. She is firmly of the belief that most adverse experiences or trauma holds an opportunity for immense resilience and thriving with adequate support - post traumatic growth.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body orientated form of trauma resolution therapy. SE gives us an opportunity to release stress energy from the body through presence and attention on specific sensations, emotions, images, body impulses and movements that are arising in the present moment. SE gives us the opportunity to renegotiate overwhelming experiences in life where our boundaries might have been broken, so that we no longer hold the energy and discomfort of those experiences in our body. These sessions are experiential, therapeutic, creative and educational. Ffion truly believes in our potential to expand beyond our trauma and what has happened to us in life. She holds a strong vision of the most authentic, embodied, and thriving version of those she is honoured to work with. Being orientated to the goodness and resilience in her clients has resulted, time and time again, in empowered, bold and beautiful transformations in her practice. The sessions are creative in nature, and she often uses art, writing, and movement as a means to tap deeper into the wisdom of the body.

Work Experience

Joanne has worked in both public and private psychotherapy practice as a student and graduate psychotherapist. She works in a humanistic integrative way, focusing on the client and their potential for growth and self-integration. Methods are adapted based on the client’s needs and what they bring to the room, as opposed to using one fixed method. Joanne has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, trauma, addiction, family systems, abuse, and relationship problems.

Underpinning Philosophy

Although trained in a humanistic manner, Joanne pulls from the integrative elements of her training quite frequently by using methods from psychodynamic, gestalt and existential therapies.
